Nanol’s lubricant nano additive has been tested with Petrobras base oils. The study was part of a Master’s thesis at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, carried out by Ms Fatima Guzman.
According to the results of the study, the additive containing copper particles exhibited reduction in friction and improved anti-wear characteristics. Two different base oils were chosen for the study; a paraffinic mineral oil with low polarity and a polar synthetic ester. Each oil was tested with two different concentrations of the additive (0,3% and 3,0%).
The tests were made under varying conditions of contact pressure, sliding speeds and oil temperature. In general, the mineral formulation with a 0,3% concentration of nano additive demonstrated the best performance.
