Where is nanotechnology most often used?

Nanotechnology is frequently used to reduce friction in a wide range of products from cosmetics and paint to steel and even toothpaste. It is also used in the oil and lubrication businesses.

How are Nanol® products different from the competition?

Nanol products are not based on conventional nanotechnology. Dr Aubrey Burrows, senior advisor to Nanol, explains: “The Nanol additive is homogenous and contains copper particles which are dispersed in a stable colloid. The structure of the colloid is similar to that in overbased detergents containing metal carbonates, which are widely used in oil formulations.”

Why was Nanol introduced relatively recently, given that the technology was first discovered over 30 years ago?

Research on implementing nano-sized particles as lubricant additives has been ongoing for some time. The major challenge of keeping these kinds of additives dispersed in the oil has limited their introduction on the global market. Thanks to the colloidal structure of Nanol, however, the additive is kept fully dispersed in the oil.

How do Nanol products reduce friction and wear?

A protective nano-film is formed exclusively on working surfaces where friction occurs. The film has plastic flow properties, reducing energy losses and preventing hydrogen corrosion and wear.
